Refugee Resettlement Program
Dayton churches and organizations assist the Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley in resettlement of refugees coming into the Dayton area. St. Peter Parish’s contribution is to supply household and personal care products for the living quarters of these refugee families through our Freedom Tree Project. For several weekends around the fourth of July, the bare branch tree is loaded with requests on star tags of needed items. Take a star and return the item during this time. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
Refugees differ from immigrants in that they have fled their home countries due to fear of religious, personal, or political persecution. They usually flee to neighboring safe countries and many times live in tent camps for many years while waiting for refugee status to be granted. In the United States, they are given refugee status by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
